The PCT process involves two main phases: the international phase and the national phase.
International Phase During the international phase, the entrepreneur files a single PCT application with a receiving office. This application is then subjected to an international search, resulting in an International Search Report (ISR) and a written opinion on the potential patentability of the invention. Optionally, the applicant can request an international preliminary examination to further evaluate the patentability.
National Phase After the completion of the international phase, the application enters the national phase, where the entrepreneur must file national applications in the desired member countries. Each national office will then review the application according to its national laws and procedures.
